For what do we give thanks?

In honor of Thanksgiving, I give you 30 things to be thankful for:

1) that we live in a country where we have the opportunity to dissent

2) that even though there’s so much for us to argue about, we can all agree it’s weird that Bristol Palin was a finalist on Dancing with the Stars

3) that as much as the bad guys hate us, we’ve gone nearly a decade without a successful terrorist attack on U.S. soil

4) that there are men and women protecting us, regardless of how much we argue about where they are and what they’re doing

5) that Conan is back, and I can go back to ignoring his TV show

6) that we have allies near and far

7) that we don’t hear Toyota death trap stories anymore

8 ) that a former train-wreck like Josh Hamilton can be named the American League MVP

9) that for all the things we bitch about, there are so many great things we take for granted every day

10) that Alyssa Milano has a really interesting Twitter feed

11) that we made it one more day

12) that Wired magazine makes it worthwhile to still read magazines

13) that the NFL is really interesting this year, thanks to half the league being very good

14) that as lousy as the economy has been, so many people are excited to spend on Black Friday

15) that Saturday Night Live doesn’t suck this year

16) that while MSNBC and FOX News remain polarizing networks, CNN has found a good spot in the neutral, ethical middle

17) that it seems electric and hybrid cars may actually become adopted by the mainstream consumer in the next few years

18) that most people haven’t given up yet

19) that the Miami Heat look like their going to stay mediocre, even with LeBron’s talents

20) that William found a nice commoner like Kate to marry

21) that the French are still annoying, but at least they annoy everybody

22) that Five Guys makes a better burger than In-N-Out

23) that HDTV‘s have finally become affordable

24) that most of us have agreed 3D movies (and their TV counterparts) aren’t any better than 2D, but IMAX is still awesome

25) that Tron: Legacy opens on December 17

26) that Bill Simmons is still a better read than he is a listen

27) that civilians dining in airport restaurants still pick up the check for military personnel eating in the same restaurant

28) that the Android and iPhone operating systems have pushed Blackberry and Microsoft to start innovating again

29) that people can still get second chances

30) that at 71-years-old, Brent Musburger is still the best college football play-by-play guy on TV

Finally, on a personal note, I’d like to thank everyone who’s taken the time to glance at this pokey little blog over the last three months. Thank you for your comments and criticisms. I hope you’ve been at least a little entertained and perhaps learned a few new things. And in return, I’ll keep trying to get better.

Have a Happy Thanksgiving!

I would have to disagree with most of these. I think your priorities are a bit askewed.

Thanks, kid. And thanks for reading the blog. Now I need to learn to drink egg nog. I’ve never had it.
